CTV local news in Barrie viewed by 76,000

This is a few weeks ago, but some of the Toronto area people may still be interested. CTV News at 6 on CKVR (CTV Two) in Barrie has increased viewership by 48% in the 25-54 year-old category, according to CTV:

BARRIE, ON (January 29, 2013) – CTV News Barrie’s CTV NEWS AT 6 is up 48% among viewers aged 25-54, according to data released in BBM’s Fall 2012 Ratings Report. With more than 76,000 viewers on average tuning in each night at 6 p.m., CTV NEWS AT 6 is by far the region’s #1 local newscast.

Of course, it's the #1 local newscast -- There is no other local TV news program in Barrie.

Barrie has a population of approximately 136,000 as of 2011, while the Barrie metro area has about 187,000 people. To put the viewership figure of 76,000 into perspective, that's about 56% of the city of Barrie watching CTV local news or 41% of the Barrie area, if they were watching from their respective areas. As we know, that's not a valid assumption since CKVR is offered on all basic TV packages anywhere in Canada. Still, the number of people interested in Barrie news is rather large.
