Weekly Top 30 TV Shows, December 31 - January 6

BBM released its latest weekly list of Top 30 TV programs watched by Canadians. This is their rankings for the period of December 31 to January 6:

Notes: Viewership is the average minute audience.
Notes from BBM Canada: "This chart shows the Top 30 TV programs for all national networks and Canadian English specialty networks for the week indicated. Programs are ranked based on their AMA...The chart also indicates the broadcast outlet on which the program aired and the program’s start and end time (shown in Eastern Time)." Demographic: All Persons 2+.

Very rare to see a program that aired in the morning receive such a large audience unless it's hockey, or more specifically, a Russia-Canada world junior hockey game. Over 1.6 million watched the live telecast at 9 am EST on New Year's Eve making it the most watched Canadian round robin game of the tournament.

Big Bang's winter return attracted nearly 4.7 million viewers making it the most watched episode of the season. The second most viewed episode of the season aired on October 18 with an audience of 4.565 million.

Dragons' Den beat repeats of the Big Bang Theory, live world junior hockey, and its American version Shark Tank as the Canadian reality show reached a season high of 1.639 million viewers.

The season premiere of the Canadian drama Bomb Girls was watched by 1.126 million on Global.

Overnight ratings of Heartland (992,000) and Republic of Doyle (802,000) seem to be underestimated. For the Republic of Doyle, the early estimate was off by more than 100, 000 people compared to the final estimate, which is a significant difference in the Canadian TV numbers game. This serves as a reminder that overnight ratings are far less accurate than the final ratings. So, when a TV network claims a certain show has broken an all-time record, that may not necessarily be the case with a smaller sample.

The only New Year's show to make the list is Ron James' New Year's Eve, which aired at 9 pm EST when more people are likely to still be watching TV before heading out for the night.
